Why WaterAid?
Clean water, toilets and hygiene transform lives. With all three, people are able to break free from poverty. Children are born healthier and get the chance to go to school. Women and men get to earn a living, and whole communities start to thrive.
That’s why our goal is simple: getting these essentials to everyone, everywhere. And with your support, it's something we can achieve within a generation.
While installing taps and toilets is a key part of our work, we do so much more.
For example, in Mali, with support from the One Drop Foundation, we used social art for behaviour change to influence positive hygiene behaviour. Through our artistic and educational workshops, we trained students, youth leaders, teachers, and members of school health clubs on water, sanitation, and hygiene issues and about good management, ownership, and maintenance of WASH infrastructure.
With more awareness and more confidence gained through participation in these workshops, the students are better able to promote good practices with their peers. Through the training the teachers receive, they are able to incorporate water, sanitation and hygiene into their daily lessons.
