Clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene are basic human rights. They should be a normal part of daily life for everyone, everywhere – but they aren't. That's why we're here.
WaterAid Canada is a member of WaterAid, an international not-for-profit, determined to make clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere. Only by tackling these three essentials in ways that last can people change their lives for good.
Our vision
WaterAid's vision is a world where everyone, everywhere has safe water, sanitation, and hygiene.
Our mission
Our mission is to transform the lives of the poorest and most marginalised people by improving access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene.
Our values
Everything we do is shaped by six values:
- Accountability
- Collaboration
- Courage
- Innovation
- Integrity
- Respect
With the help of amazing people like you, we're working with our partners in some of the most marginalized places in the world. Together, we've already reached millions of people with these three essentials, enabling entire communities to unlock their potential, break free from poverty, and change their lives for good.
And while installing taps and toilets is essential to our work, we do so much more.
We convince governments to change laws, connect policymakers with people on the ground, pool knowledge and resources, and rally support from people and organizations around the world, making lasting change happen on a massive scale.
In the last year alone, you helped us reach:
1.52 million people with clean water
1.52 million people with clean water
For Idealy and her mom, that means being able to drink from the tap without worrying about deadly diseases.
1.55 million people with decent toilets
1.55 million people with decent toilets
A decent toilet means the chance for girls like Afsana in Bangladesh to stay in school, taking them closer to reaching their dreams.
8.29 million people with hygiene promotion
8.29 million people with hygiene promotion
How do you make the benefits of clean water and decent toilets last for generations? The key is good hygiene, as Zelmonia and Israel have been discovering in Timor-Leste.
We’ve made amazing progress, but we can't stop now
With your help, we can reach the millions of people still living without the essentials they need to live dignified, healthy lives.
Currently, 703 million people in the world – almost one in ten – don’t have clean water close to home. And,1.5 billion people in the world – almost one in five – don’t have a decent toilet of their own. This shouldn't be normal.
Thanks to remarkable people like you, we’ve already made huge progress. But there’s still so much more we need to do. Creating lasting change isn’t just a dream.
Together, we can reach everyone, everywhere with clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene by 2030 – and change normal for good.
