We believe working with other sectors beyond WASH is key to achieving inclusive, equitable, and sustainable access to WASH for all. We do this by using an integrated sector-wide approach, working closely with actors outside the mainstream WASH sector and identifying ways to collectively contribute to critical human development outcomes, such as health, education, nutrition and livelihoods. This is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals adopted in 2015 by the UN General Assembly, which promote multi-sectoral collaboration and integration, in addition to Goal 6 – ‘ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all’ by 2030.
We therefore support the development of an integrated approach for sustainable WASH services, with actors from relevant sectors such as health, education, nutrition, environment. It designs and implements service delivery, advocacy and sector strengthening programmes as a coherent package, with the country strategic objectives providing a framework for programming and measuring impact. Our district and town level programmes integrate service delivery, sector strengthening and advocacy, with direct links to our national level influencing and sector strengthening agenda.
Our programmes are implemented in a District Wide Approach, which allows for key actors at district level to define common goals and approaches.
