Tim Wainwright, Chief Executive

Tim joined WaterAid UK in May 2017, having previously led ADD International, an organisation working with the global disability movement. Tim has worked for Oxfam and VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas), in roles based in Bangkok and Beijing. Tim was also formerly the Chair of , the consortium of UK international development agencies.

Abdul-Nashiru Mohammed, Regional Director West-Africa

Abdul-Nashiru (Nash) oversees WaterAid’s work in the West Africa Region covering Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso. Previously, Nash previously held roles including Policy Advisor, Team leader and Country Director at various locations within the Region.

Amaka Godfrey, Global Policy and Research Director

Amaka Godfrey, Global Policy and Research Director

Amaka joined WaterAid in 2022 as Global Policy and Research Director. In her role, she’s driving forward WaterAid’s vital policy work say backed by evidence and research.

Ms Godfrey, who is based in Nairobi, is a specialist in the field of Sanitation, Hygiene and Water Supply with over 25 years of experience under her belt, including in policy, research and programming. Having worked in more than ten countries, she combines a strong technical knowledge with a vast experience of working in rural and urban areas.

Arif Jabbar Khan, Country Director Pakistan

Before landing his role at WaterAid, he has worked across the globe in leading roles for a wide variety of organisations, including Oxfam International, VSO, Childfund International, USAID Ambassadors Fund and Save the Children – and has featured in media regularly to share his expert views.

Arif holds an M.Phil degree in Public Policy from the National Defense University Islamabad and a Masters degree in Water Recourses Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok. He is also an Eisenhower Fellow.

Jennie York, Director of Communications and Fundraising

Jennie has extensive experience of the international development sector, having previously worked at WaterAid for five years when she led the Direct Marketing Team. She left in 2015 to take up the role of Deputy Director of Supporter and Communities at Save the Children UK, progressing to Director, but rejoined WaterAid in 2021.

Jonathan leads our work on climate change and water security. Before working at WaterAid, Jonathan was First Secretary for Climate Change at the British Embassy in Beijing, working on China’s carbon market, international deforestation and climate legislation.

Sol leads our global policy, advocacy and campaigns work, to ensure that everyone, everywhere has access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene. Sol previously worked for Unicef UK and Christian Aid.

Thérèse Mahon, Regional Programme Manager South Asia

Thérèse is a senior international development programs manager and leader with 20 years of experience in the WASH sector focusing on South Asia. She is WaterAid’s global lead for menstrual health and has made significant contributions over the past 15 years to advocacy, evidence and practice relating to menstrual health and hygiene.
